Singing bird boxes
woods, noble metals and sparkling lacquer encase the mechanical
movement consisting of about 250 pieces. This is briefly how it
works: a small spring-motor-driven pump blows air into a container,
which in turn injects it into the whistle. A cam-driven piston
slides inside the whistle. Various cams control the movements
of the bird, perfectly synchronized with the birdsong.
The miniature bird, dressed in real bird feathers (between 70
and 100 years old), whistles, pivots, opens its beak, flaps its
wings and moves its tail for about 10 to 12 seconds before disappearing,
as if by magic.
