A LIFE-SAVING VOCATION

Thanks to its built-in miniaturized transmitter operating on the 121.5 MHz aviation distress frequency, the EMERGENCY by BREITLING is universally appreciated by aviation professionals. It has already been instrumental in saving many lives, a capacity that has made it synonymous with safety in this highly demanding field.
The EMERGENCY MISSION is a new variation of this instrument for pilots. Featuring a design more similar to that of a traditional chronograph, the EMERGENCY MISSION is intended to be a more "civilian" version than the original model: polished steel is used rather than titanium and an analog display replaces the digital indications. Nonetheless, beneath this apparently "tamer" appearance, the MISSION chronograph remains an impressively efficient instrument and the performances of its transmitter are equivalent to those of the distress beacons that are mandatory aircraft equipment. By way of comparison, the average range of its signal - on flat terrain or in the open sea - corresponds to 90 nautical miles for a search and rescue plane flying at 20,000 feet. In optimal conditions, it can easily reach more than 200 nautical miles.
The transmitter's operating principle is ingenious: it is set into operation by unscrewing a cap, thereby enabling the user to deploy the helical antenna to its optimal length. The transmitter is then activated and has an autonomy of 48 hours.
This masterpiece of miniaturization is housed in a sturdy steel case fitted with a screw-locked crown and a sapphire crystal glareproofed both sides. The EMERGENCY MISSION is water-resistant to 10 bars/ 100 meters (330 ft). Its chronograph is capable of measuring short times to the nearest tenth of a second while providing perfect legibility, whatever the conditions. The EMERGENCY MISSION is powered by a SUPERQUARTZTM thermocompensated movement, the only technology able to meet the stringent precision requirements imposed by the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC).
